My Best Birthday

I have been dreading turning 35, but my first day at as a gasp 35 year old has been one of my best days....ever.

It all started at 12:15am when Lynilu called me and tried her best to sing Happy Birthday like Marilyn Monroe. She had me laughing so hard that it was hard for me to get to sleep. That woman just cracks me up. We enjoyed talking last night about some of the good times we had when she was living next door to me.

Then at 7:00am I got a text message from a friend wishing me a happy birthday. Here is our conversation via text message:

Her: Happy Birthday to You!
Me: Holy Crap...I am 35.
Her: If you look closely I am sure you will find another gray hair.
Me: Wow, that was kind of mean of you to say.
Her: It was a compliment...the older you get the wiser you become.
Me: You must be really smart then.

Once I got to work my dry erase board had many birthday wishes on it and there was a homemade cake on my desk. One of my techs had made me the cake and gave me a very sweet card. Within 5 minutes I had two other techs come in and wish me a happy birthday and give me a present. I went over to the other unit and I had another homemade birthday cake and two of my techs got me a $40 gift certificate to Bath & Body Works. How cool is that. As you can see from the picture I gave Sophie some frosting from the cake and she loved it as much as I did.

I then met a few friends for lunch at my favorite BBQ restaurant. To see all the birthday photos click HERE.

When I got home I received the best present. I checked my email and there was this email waiting for me:

Caroline:
I sincerely wish you a very happy birthday!
With Love,
Dad

For the first time in 4 years my Father has reached out to me. Even if I never hear from him again, this email says so much to me.

Today was my perfect day. I felt loved and it was made very clear that I am worth more then I give myself credit for and a whole lot of people love me.

If the rest of the year is as good as today then it's going to be one hell of a year.

Phew - I am first. I have to get up earlier each day to beat Lynilu to your comments section-:)
Glad you had a great birthday, and I love that your dad emailed. If I were you, I'd write back and tell him thank you, and his email was a big part of it.

I love the pictures! There were just too many blue eyes in that on of you and MJ! Is the guy N? And the other woman L? Good, now I have faces!! Sophie is too cute with her eager expressions!! LOL! And little Bonk ... OMG, so sweet that she was licking at the icing with her eyes closed like she was in heaven!! Awww! Where was Ben?? Probably hiding somewhere watching all of you and going "Eeeewwwww! what is that stuff??"

Like Cristin, I was absolutely taken aback with your dad's email. My eyes teared up, and I was just so happy for you both! Wow! WOW!!

Whew! What a super day! Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!!

Homemade cake and Lyni impersonating Marilyn...awesome!

Hmm, well I've been coloring my hair since I was like 25 so if and when I go/went gray, I will not be/was not aware of it and never will be. Denial works too!!

cristin--you should have seen my reaction when i read his email...

ruth--it was the best birthday present

audra--famous daves is fairly new to KC and i just love their BBQ

lynilu--yes you guessed on all the people..when i was giving bonk the icing sophie looked at me and i decided she would get some because she is just spoiled...ben was hiding (as usual) and even if he was out and about he wouldn't have wanted the icing

patti--i was thrilled that he emailed me...that small gesture said so much to me

sandra--not just one homemade cake...but two. not too many people get two cakes..

bobbi--yes it is going to be a great year if yesterday is any indication
