The Sky is Falling

This was what downtown Kansas City looked like yesterday afternoon. There was a chemical plant that exploded and there was a huge cloud looming over Kansas City. From 2pm yesterday until 7pm the news channels were on with this breaking news. Amazingly no was injured or killed.

While we were watching the news yesterday afternoon one of the news people came on and they were in the area when the explosion happened and there was a bunch of debris falling from the sky. One of the news people picked one up and they were showing it on TV. I am not sure what they were thinking holding and touching this stuff that was falling from the Chemical Plant explosion. About 5 minutes later the news person said they had just got a call from the EPA saying "don't touch it again, and make sure you wash your hands." Then they told all viewers not to pick up any of the debris that was falling from the sky. Then they were laughing and saying, "it's too late for us". We were laughing because it seemed like they were saying, "it's too late for us..save yourself."

So that was the big news event in Kansas City yesterday. The wind was blowing to the south west so we didn't get any of the smoke over our house.

Well I am so glad you didn't get any wind/chemical fallout from the explosion. I was worried about you guys but figured if there was any danger you would mention it. Those newspeople are asshats. Total and complete asshats.

casey--we live far enough away that we were never in danger.

patti--we were laughing at the newspeople. we were hoping their fingers would fall off or something. maybe that will come in the next few day. :)

Did the newspeople not think? Geez, they could have just taken a picture of the debris on the ground. Dumb asses!

sassy--well the person that was in the field when all this happened was the sports person. so to answer your question..no they didn't think. we were shocked they were touching it and then thought it was even more funny when they said the epa had just called saying "don't touch it".

That's a great photo! We are far enough away that we weren't really affected by it, but I'm sure it was pretty scary for the people living and working in that area. When I saw them picking up the piece of debris on the news I thought they were pretty nuts as well. I'm glad the EPA called and told them not to.

At work they told everyone they were turning off the intake of outside air during the fire. So Chris went home -- no one knew what was in that smoke at the time! Scary.

I'm glad that none of you turned into little green men!

I didn't see this on the news, wow that is scary. Hard to believe no one got hurt, but thank goodness for that.
